Denture Care Center Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are dentures?

A. Dentures are removable, custom made prosthetic teeth that are designed to help you eat and smile like regular teeth. Full dentures are made for all upper teeth or all lower teeth, while partial dentures are made to replace only a few teeth.

Q. Why do people get dentures?

A. People get dentures for a number of reasons. Usually, denture patients have significant dental problems or tooth decay from years of using their teeth, and these dental problems are now disrupting their life. Missing, deteriorating or discolored teeth may be causing the patient to be embarrassed by their smile. They may also cause speech problems, pain associated with eating, and even depression. Dentures are a great way to help these people feel excited and confident with their smile!

Q. How do I clean my dentures?

A. Just like natural teeth, Dentures should be cleaned daily. However, they are not cleaned in the exact same way as natural teeth. Please visit the Denture Care page to learn more about cleaning and storing your dentures.

Q. If I have dentures, do I still need to go to the dentist?

A. Even if you have a full set of dentures, you should continue to visit the dentist once a year for a check-up and oral cancer screening.

Q. When should I replace my dentures?

A. Most dentures should be replaced every five to seven years, but dentures may need to be replaced sooner or later, depending on the fit and wear.
